Boniface Onwuka Igwe, lawyer, economist, and arbitrator are the Principal Counsel of Onwuka Igwe & Co, a firm of Legal Practitioners with offices in Abuja, Lagos, and Enugu, majoring in practice areas that include Local Content Compliances, Constitutional Law, Corporate Tax Law, Maritime, and Shipping Law, Consultancy and Advisory Services in Economic & Investment Law, and Alternative Dispute Resolution.

 In 1999, he led the Team of Nigerian lawyers who battled successfully for the release of the Nigerian Training Vessel-“MV Trainer” in the United States of America as a result of which success he was appointed into the National Maritime Authority as Director of Special Duties by President Obasanjo

Between 1999 and 2011, he headed several departments in the Agency (later renamed Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency –NIMASA). He, also as Director of Shipping Development, led the effort culminating in the articulation and implementation of the watershed policy of the Nigerian Seafarers Development Program (NSDP) under which NIMASA is currently training various seafaring professionals in several foreign maritime institutions across the world.

His many publications include a book- Law, and Justice in the Service of Humanity and several articles in international journals including ‘Fidelity To Contractual Terms as A Tool for the Development of Indigenous Capacity’.

Mr. Igwe is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, International Bar Association, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK), Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators, Maritime Arbitrators Association of Nigeria, Maritime Law Association of Nigeria, and Federal Bar Association, Washington DC, USA.
